Internal combustion requires fuel to blend with air. The carburetor handles this for Mcculloch chain saws, just as for any small gas-powered yard tools. Needles regulate the amount of fuel and air that are mixed. The needles are controlled by three adjustment screws: an idle, a low-speed and a high-speed screw. Carburetors are pre-set by the manufacturer, but can fall out of adjustment after many hours of use. Adjusting the needles that control the intake and mixture is not a job for the inexperienced.

Unscrew and remove the main cover, air filter cover and air filter. Beneath these, you will see a metal plate covering the carburetor. Unscrew the plate and pull it off to reveal the carburetor and its three adjustment screws. If you are working with a tachometer, attach it according to manufacturer instructions.

Turn both the high- and low-speed adjustment screws clockwise until they stop, but do not force them. Turn each screw back one full turn and start the engine. Allow the engine to warm up for about five minutes.

Measure the idle speed if using a tachometer. Ideally, it should read approximately 2,700 RPM. Uninstall code composer studio mac manual. If you choose not to use one, use the screwdriver to turn the idle screw as high as possible without engaging the clutch. If the chains start spinning, turn the screw back until it stops.

Adjust the low-speed screw using the screwdriver. Turn it slightly back and forth and listen for the engine sounds to change. On one end, it will surge heavily. On the other end, it will nearly die. Find the midway point between these two extremes. You may need to return to the idle adjustment after completing the low-speed adjustment. If so, repeat Step 3 and then continue on to Step 5.

Open the trigger fully and listen to the motor. It should scream when it is completely open, then flutter when idle. A tachometer reading should be generally between 10,000 and 12,000 RPM when fully open. Only attempt to adjust the high-speed screw if it is absolutely necessary to machine operation. Use extreme caution with this adjustment and turn only 1/8 turn at a time. Making hasty adjustments can blow out the engine and cause irreparable damage.

Tips
- Make sure you have at least half a tank of clean, new gasoline in the tank before attempting the procedure.
- It is a good idea to clean parts when you carry out any repair. Replace or clean air filters and clean away any grime and grease you encounter to keep your machine in optimal shape.
- Some new models of McCulloch chain saws have limiting caps on the carburetor adjustment screws due to regulations imposed on manufacturers. In this case, it is best to take your chain saw to a professional for adjustments.
